Shortwave Listening Over the Internet

Ok, so with the post on the shortwave schedule viewer software, I got the idea to mention a site I’ve played with and think is a pretty neat idea. Of course, part of the concept of shortwave is, with the longer radio frequencies they can travel hundreds (even thousands) of miles and you can hear a breadcast from literally the other side of the world.

There are problems these days, interference is one of the biggies.k There is a really eat site though that might help you work around that by actually tuning in a live broadcast online, listening to a receiver in another part of the world. Let’s say you were interested in the Deutche Welle feed directed towards Europe instead of the West Africa feed that’s picked up in the US?

Enter dxtuner.com You can login, connect to a tuner in, say London and tune it, then stream what the receiver picks up to your pc. It’s like having a remote listening post around the world. There are a few free tuners, but there is a subscription to get to play around with most of them. It’s in some ways anachronistic in the fact that there are web streams of a good deal of the material, but if you’re into radio listening in particular you might find it interesting.
