Mandriva wins another Government convert to linux from NT
According to Mandriva’s community newsletter, they’ve landed a contract with the French Ministry of Agriculture and Fishing. The deal will replace outdated Windows NT servers with Mandriva Linux Corporate Server on a number of machines.
A new conversion kit that Mandriva has developed was said to have cemented the deal. Article (in French) can be found here. There were apparently 3 objectives: maintain existing services, facilitate the transition to open standards, and it’s not clear if the third objective was a smooth conversion? (Been a while since I’ve read French.)
It is noted that the NT4 Migration kit (tool?) will be GNU licensed and Mandriva says it will be openly released before the end of the year.
Given the financial difficulties Mandrake had a few years ago, it’s good to see them emerging from that, growing with the recent acquisitons of Connectiva and Lycoris and now gaining newsworthy contracts.
