IE 7 INCOMPATIBLE with WORDPRESS blogs using the stattraq plugin
I’ve FINALLY tracked down what was causing the issue with displaying my page in Internet Explorer 7 (RC1). It turns out that the stattraq plugin in wordpress (stattraq site) is part of the problem. Now, I don’t understand exactly WHY… because I do have stattraq on each of the sites, but one… onlineradiotv.com carried this error at the bottom of the page (ONLY in IE7 by the way…) “Fatal error: Call to undefined function: () in /var/www/html/radiotv/wp-content/plugins/stattraq.php on line 90”
The other pages just failed to display as though there was a network problem…. until…
I de-activated the stattraq plugin from within the wordpress admin interface and then the page came up in IE 7 with no problems. (YES, ALL of them came up after removing stattraq).
So, again, I don’t know WHY, but if you’re running a wordpress blog with stattraq installed as a plugin, you may not be able to view the page with Internet Explorer 7, it will likely give a “explorer could not display the web page” error giving you constructive advice to check your internet connection and maybe the website is unavailable….
One install of the plugin did not exhibit this problem. The symptomology that I saw… occasionally, I would see a flash of a view of the page (fraction of a second view of the web page) before it would bounce to the page could not be displayed error. Unfortunately, this has me disabling that wonderful plugin until there is a fix for it. (I really like stattraq and hate to have to disable it.)
–Update 8:35PM EDT–
I’ve just filed a bug report for IE on the issue as well at connect.microsoft.com/ie This is the first time I’ve had a chance to actually file a bug report with Microsoft, we’ll see how that goes. Given that most browsers seem to have no problem with the pages I can’t imagine that this is the “fault” of the plugin.
I’ve also contacted the writer of stattraq just so that he’s aware of the problem. It’s peculiar that on 3 sites it caused the page to fail, but on one it just gave an error at the bottom of the page. The one that JUST gives the error is the smallest of the sites (by far.)
